Questions, answered

A little clarity before you pin.

Learn what you can track, how updates work,
and what happens to your data.

Getting started

What can I track?

Track numeric values displayed on webpages: revenue, subscribers, balances, usage totals, and more. The visual picker selects the value you want. Manual metrics let you track numbers you enter yourself.

Do I need an API or a MetricPin account?

Standard tracking reads a selected webpage value and stores your metric in the extension. You don't need an API integration or a MetricPin account. Private websites still require their own sign-in.

Where can I see my dashboard?

Use the full new-tab dashboard, open the compact toolbar popup, or keep the side panel beside your current page. Grid, compact, and list views help you choose the amount of detail.

Tracking & updates

How often do numbers refresh?

Choose automatic refresh every 5, 15, or 30 minutes, every hour, or every 6 hours. You can also turn automatic refresh off and sync manually. Actual updates depend on the browser running and the page being accessible.

Does it work with signed-in dashboards?

You can select a number while signed in and grant access to that site. Refreshes depend on the website and your session. If authentication expires, sign in again before retrying.

What if a metric stops updating?

Check site permission, sign-in status, and the latest sync result. A website redesign can change where a value is displayed. Open the metric settings and reselect the element with the picker if needed.

Goals, alerts & AI

What alerts can I create?

Set rules for a value above or below a threshold, a percentage change, any change, a reached goal, or stale data. Rules track transitions to help avoid repeating the same threshold alert on every sync.

Can I track goals and calculate new metrics?

Yes. Add a target to show goal progress, and choose whether higher or lower is better. Formulas can combine tracked values into a calculated metric, with a preview while you edit.

How do the AI features work?

MetricPin uses your selected AI website and browser session for features such as visual reading, value cleanup, alert creation, metric analysis, and daily briefings. Relevant context or a selected screenshot may be sent to that provider. Review AI settings and the Privacy page.

Data & permissions

Where is my data stored?

Saved metrics, settings, and history live in your browser's extension storage. MetricPin does not operate a cloud database for those metrics. Usage analytics and AI processing are described separately in the Privacy page.

Can I export or back up my numbers?

Export a metric's history as CSV. A JSON backup saves your metrics for later import, including options to merge with or replace existing metrics. Keep your backup somewhere you control.

Why does MetricPin request website access?

Website access lets the extension read and refresh the values you choose. You can manage those permissions in the browser. Ordinary tracking reads selected values; visual AI reading uses a region you explicitly select.
