Policy draft · September 30, 2026

The repository policy is a draft. Google Analytics retention and data-sharing settings must be verified before publication.

MetricPin is a Chrome extension that lets you select a number on a webpage, save it as a metric, periodically read that selected value, and display its history, trends, goals, and alerts.

Information MetricPin handles

When you use MetricPin, it may handle the following information:

  • The webpage URL and CSS selector for each metric you choose to track.
  • The selected webpage value, its parsed numeric value, and its history.
  • Metric names, categories, goals, alert rules, synchronization preferences, display preferences, and extension diagnostics.
  • URLs and basic tab state needed to find a matching open page, perform a synchronization, or open an extension view.
  • A screenshot region only when you explicitly choose visual reading.

MetricPin reads only the selected element during ordinary tracking. It does not build a general browsing-history database, record keystrokes, collect passwords, read forms, or monitor pages merely because they are visited.

Because you can choose a metric from any website, the selected value could contain information that is sensitive in context. Do not select information you do not want stored locally or, when using an optional AI feature, sent to the AI website you selected.

How information is used

MetricPin uses this information only to provide its single purpose:

  • save and refresh the metrics you selected;
  • show metric history, trends, goals, and alerts;
  • open the saved target page or reuse an already-open matching page when a refresh requires it;
  • provide optional AI-assisted alert parsing, visual reading, metric interpretation, and daily briefings when you enable those features.

MetricPin stores metric data in the browser's extension storage on your device. The developer does not operate a cloud database for MetricPin data.

Optional AI features

AI features are disabled unless you enable a supported AI website in MetricPin. When you use one, MetricPin opens or communicates with that website in your browser and may provide the prompt, relevant metric context, or an explicitly selected screenshot so the website can return a response. This information is sent to the AI provider through its website and account, not to MetricPin's developer. The provider's own privacy policy and terms apply.

Usage analytics

MetricPin uses Google Analytics to understand feature usage and improve the extension. When analytics is configured in the production build, basic usage events are sent automatically. There is no in-extension analytics on/off control.

The current events cover extension start/install/update, metric creation and deletion, manual sync activity and success, and daily briefing requests. Their metadata includes a startup reason, success flags, whether a new metric has a goal, a random installation identifier, and session timing. Google also receives the originating IP address through the network request.

The current analytics callers do not include metric names or values, page URLs, browsing history, prompts, screenshots, passwords, or account details in their event payloads. The random identifier is pseudonymous, not a guarantee of anonymity. The developer can view usage reports in Google Analytics.

Google Analytics retention and data-sharing settings must be verified before this policy draft is published. Contact the developer with privacy or deletion requests; identifying records may require your installation identifier. The identifier is stored locally until extension data is cleared or the extension is uninstalled. Clearing local data does not delete events already sent to Google Analytics.

Sharing and sale

MetricPin does not sell user data. MetricPin does not transfer user data to third parties except for the Google Analytics usage events described above and when you explicitly enable and use an AI website, as described above, or when a transfer is necessary to provide a feature you directly requested through that website. MetricPin does not use user data for creditworthiness or lending decisions.

Retention and deletion

MetricPin keeps saved metrics, preferences, and history in browser extension storage until you delete them in the extension, clear the extension's data, or uninstall MetricPin. Session diagnostics are temporary and are removed by the browser when the extension session ends or when you clear them in the extension.

Security

MetricPin packages its executable code with the extension and does not download or execute remote JavaScript or WebAssembly. Website content is handled only for the tracking and optional features described above.

Changes and contact

This policy may be updated when MetricPin's data practices change. The current version is always available on this page.

Questions or privacy requests can be sent through the MetricPin Chrome Web Store listing.
